Staying Calm And Collected During Crazy Fluctuations
The markets have been going crazy. That we all can agree on. From the meme stock fiasco to Dogecoin and crypto crazes and crashes, to speculations making the whole market turn itself on its head, very few of us have been having an easy time as of late. Even though seeing your portfolio go through a rollercoaster makes you want to lose your mind, this is the time you need to be keeping it. Why we focus so much on mindfulness and meditation is for this reason. You need a cool and collected head when trading. Acting on impulse or emotion will almost always result in you hurting yourself. But saying and doing are two different things, as we know. So whenever you feel yourself losing it, turn to this meditation to find your inner voice of reason again.
Find a comfortable place to sit and start with your breathing exercises. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth and let your body relax. Start doing a body scan, starting from the top of your head, down to your toes. Let every part of your body relax and move with your breath. Take special note of any physical reactions to the stress. Do you have tense shoulders or neck, or a headache at the base of your skull? Are you fidgeting or have an upset stomach, mark any physical symptoms of stress before moving to the next part of the meditation.
In this relaxed state turn your focus on one of the parts of your body suffering right now from stress. Imagine this part of your body tainted and grey, maybe with thorns wrapped around it. What is causing this part of your body to look and feel this way? Slowly open yourself up to the negative feelings you are having. The worry and questions about the future. Did I make a mistake? Will I lose all my money? When will I recover? Now breathe in long and slow, hold the breath for 3 counts and release it. Do this several more times and come back to focus. Now remember what we know to be true, the market always goes up over time. No matter what is happening right now, know that the market always goes up. Feel the thorns loosen and unlatch themselves from your body. Feel the blood return to that part of your body in pain. With each breath repeat to yourself that the phrase, “the market always goes up over time.” With each repetition give yourself a deep cleansing breath. Visualize the parts of your body in pain starting to ease.
Now just focus on the breath and visualize the part of your body in pain. See the thorns completely falling out and the vine withering and dying. See that part of your body pulsing with life, with each heartbeat more color returns to it, replacing the grey pallor. Feel the pain or irritation melt away. If there are several parts of your body reacting to stress, go to each part of your body in the same way. When you are ready, return your focus to your breath. Scan your body one last time and feel the relaxation that has taken you over. Know that volatility is natural and the whole reason why the market is a place to increase your wealth in the first place. Fortune favors the bold. Fate leads the willing. You are headed towards the path you are supposed to be on, no one can take that away from you without your permission. Breathe in and out and when you are ready, slowly start to move your body. Wiggle your fingers and toes, stretch your arms and legs out, rock your neck back and forth. Sweep your arms over your head and lengthen your back. Roll your shoulders back three times and open your eyes slowly. Everything that is meant for you is coming for you, you are on the right path.
